I am looking for a 2 up seat on a 09 street glide that is comfortable for long rides and would sit me back and down about an inch. I have the stock seat back on at this point and it just doesn't cut it. Most of the seats I have ridden seem to move you closer. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
This is a topic that's as controversial as any other. The issue with seat is that we're all different shapes and sizes so the same exact seat feels different to different people.
"For Me", I love my Sundowner seat and wouldn't trade it for the world. BadX from mean city cycles recommended it as a good starting point. It's narrower up front than my stock seat, much more comfortable for the other half, and has good lower back support considering it's not a back rest.
I sit lower and further back in comparison to my factory seat, some people have told me the same seat pushes them forward and sits them higher.
The best thing if you can is to try and ride a few buddies bikes that have seats you're considering.
+1 on calling Allen from Mean City. He's modified 3 seats of mine, solo, 2-up for 2 bikes and they've been great all the way around. they take the time to ask you what you ride, how you ride, what you weigh and what you're looking to do with the seat (up/down, forward/back, or a combination of the 2. Price is great, quick service, give them a call or drop them an e-mail. He's a Forum sponsor also.
I got a C&C after having the tall boy learning to hate it. The C&C has gotten alot more comfortable over the last 500 or so miles so I have no regrets so far.
Seat comfort varies so wildly from one person to the next that it's very difficult to just tell you "go with this seat". What's sent from heaven for one rider is a torture contraption from hell for the next guy. All you can do is experiment and see what fits YOU according to your body shape, weight, height, etc.
There are many, many threads on this subject. Read thru them and try to find a consensus and make a "best guess". If a seat doesnt fit then sell it here in the classifieds. I've done this a number of times and some seats fit me and others did not. Try to buy one in the classifieds here too, i've had great luck with brother riders here in buying and selling gear and accessories.
Once you find a seat that truly fits you it's wonderful. I can do 15 hr days in a good seat. I've had other seats that in 15 minutes I was squirming around in discomfort.
There Are a couple of Sundowners in the touring classified section for sale right now.
I have a Sundowner on my Road King and it was an improvement over the stock seat. the std Rk seat was ok for about 30 min. The Sundowner is good for an hour to and hour and a half before but burn sets in.
My Sundown will be For Sale in a week or two, I have a New Corbin Seat in production right now. Should ship this week.
Thanks for the replies. I'm sure what works for some doesn't for others. I was just looking for some ideas for somewhere to start. I know that I want to sit a little lower and back from the stock seat. I'm taller than average at about 6'3" or so and a little on the heavier side. My brother has a sundowner on his street glide. While I find the seat comfortable to sit on I feel like it moves me forward and up from the stock seat so the riding position isn't what I like. I guess it's time to try a few and see what the butt likes. Thanks again for the input.
They're not cheap, but they're very good and they convert your stock seat pan to "your" specs. I'm 6'2" and 230 lbs and the seat fits me just fine! I've been riding them since 1988 and am on my forth one with my 09 Ultra. You could do worse!
I'm with Steve, I had Russel build me a seat on a Tallboy pan, and I'm in heaven. Best seat by far, and I've had many. But I can see where SG owners might think they are a bit too big for their taste.
You might want to check out a Corbin, They move you back and down just a bit, but you can always get one custom made. Mustang just came out with a new seat , the Super Tourer that does the same.
I'm 6'3" as well, and when I tried to sit lower my hips started giving me the fits, they didn't like being lower than my knees. But everyone's different, which is why there are always seats for sale in the classifieds.
The super tour is 1.5 back form stock and 1.5 lower than stock. it is also 17 inches wide and is built for larger frame people, it least thats what they told me.
