The top 10 ways to solve your tranny noise problems as compiled by HD customer service:
10. Remove the windshield so noise isn't reflected back to you.
9. If you have lowers, remove those. It has been reported that they also enhance the noise.
8. While your at it, remove the fairing all together.
7. Turn the radio volume to at least 8 bars. Rap music is more effective.
6. Always ride in group letting others with earlier models and modified exhaust to lead.
5. Purchase and use set of HD ear plugs which will be standard on the 08's
4. Set your idle to 2400 rpm.
That is all they have for now but they want to assure you they are still working on it. Any by the way you don't have to do all of the suggestions, pick any 3 or 4 of the above.
Being a proud owner of a 07 Road Glide with drivetrain clatter, I can say that keeping a sense of humor is always good.
I guess I'm a little worried about what might happen when it stops. You're right that it isn't in the manual. I been trying to get a 07 service manual but those aren't available either. Not to sure on how they are put together.
Referring to the noise as "clatter" is being kind. My previous rides had some engine clatter. I'll go back to the more descriptive "rocks in a can".
I miss my 06 ultra, but I love my 07 Srteet Glide...
Just not wealthy enough to have both.
I'm getting 49-52 mpg
If I drop below 70 I'm in 5th gear.. I here no rattle..
If I get below 47 mph I will here a whine, but I go to 4th and all is fine..
You just have to re-learn the way the Motorcycle operates.
When i first got my 04 EG Standard, I thought there was something wrong with
it because it rattled like crazy.. But I was used to riding GoldWings and there a smother engine
so the dont lug as bad.
My friend has a 06 Road King, and his isn't the counterbalanced engine, I can just imagine the rattling I would have done
If I had started on it...
I would have probably kept the 04 standard, if the gngine had been black and chrome... and added the lower faring and a tour bag.
But you see, we all get the bug, want more, (i'll speek for myself) and the 96 inch motor and the 6 speed haunted me untill I had it.
I stay away from the dealer as much as possiable, or untill they sell that 07 UG CVO.....
It a never ending cycle... to coin a phrase... MOTORCYCLE!!!
