I like being able to communicate when riding but don't like listening to helmet speakers. Plus I don't always wear the helmet with the comm system. So I was thinking about getting the handheld cb mic. Anyone use this? Can you hear the traffic thru your speakers well enough?

I have a Cobra 38wxst hand held CB that I have not tried as of yet. It has ports on the side for a separate hand held mike, which I need to get to make it work the way I wish it too. It also has ports for powering it and or charging nicads.
I purchased mine from a local truck stop for $69.99 plus tax. I hope the hand held mike and speaker combo is of the noise canceling style, as it will be necessary for riding. Since I ride a standard Glide I had considered mounting my Cobra model 25 in the stereo location, but I like the HD glove box.
I have a Midland 75-785 handheld CB clipped to a RAM-Mount flat holder. After a lot of searching, I found that a Cobra pmrsm Lapel/Speaker Mic for Hand Held Radios would work.
After getting it, I found out that the mike had an audio out jack which I plugged into my radio's aux input. I can listen to the CB over my fairing speakers when the radio's set to use the aux input.
After taking the attached picture, I moved my retractable ID badge reel holding the mike to the 12V outlet on the right handlebar.
I've run with the HD handheld mic for years. I prefer it over the headset because sometimes I ride without a helmet. I have mine mounted on the flip up lid cover for the gas tank. It used to be on the bars, but I didn't like the way the bars would get jostled when I put it in the clip or pulled it out. On the tank it's solid and I can easily get to it with both hands. I have also secured it to the plug with a ziptie so it won't pull out if I stretch it too far.
Used the hand held mike from HD for years did not like using it in traffic or in city. Swithched to iMC head set that you can wear without a helmet. Like that much better for all around use.
Hmm, anyone else confused here? There was a HUGE thread on here not that long ago about cell phone usage on a bike & 90% of the replies on there were from all the anti cellphone crybabies bitching. & moaning about the stupidity of using a cellphone while riding a bike. What's the difference? Actually, the cellphone users were safer, cause they were using hands free devices & not hand held devices. I could care less either way, just wondering where all the anti communications on bike zealots are.
