EPA annoucement and E15 gas
WASHINGTON Oct 13 (Reuters) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said on Wednesday it would not approve E15 gasoline this year for vehicles older than the 2001 model year or for any motorcycles, heavy-duty vehicles and non-road engines, because there is no testing data to support such a move.
I also grew up on a dairy farm. What might make the corn farmer rich, drives the dairy farmer, and the Beef rancher to the poorhouse. Corn has become so expensive that many dairy farmers have begun selling their cattle off as beef cows! This is an inferior form of beef and I'm sure while everyone ( Save the Beef Ranchers) is enjoying the cheap beef prices due to a flooding of the market, Dairy Farmers can't sell off their livestock forever, meanwhile the price of your milk, butter, anything dairy will have to rise dramatically to reflect this.
Corn is edible. It has many uses as far as food goes not just for us but for the animals we eat.
Petroleum on the other hand taste very bad, but does a hell of a job running motors.
You are not protectiing freedom by purchasing ethanol.
You are driving up prices around the world for staple foods, and Considering the U.S. is the "Bread Basket of the World" means in third world countries these increases can be devastating....... which actually......... Produces more terrorists.
Just some food for thought. I do not mean any disrespect to anyone I would just like to offer an alternative view.
I say burn as much oil as you can and force the hand of technologies such as hydrogen.
Living here in "America's Dairyland", we are seeing, first hand, the results of this 'changeover' the farmers are going through. Corn has quadrupled in price in the last 10 years, while dairy products have been artificially held at the same (or lower) prices. Farmers, like any businessman, will gravitate quickly to the program that will make them the most money. Short thinking citizens may think this is good for them, but in the long run will only create shortages of corn, meat and dairy products. We are already seeing beef from Mexico and Argentina in the meat coolers of our grocery stores.

1. We do obtain oil from OPEC countries. All day long and twice on Tuesdays. Just not the "Majority" of our oil. So what? We still rely on them and we pay them for the service.

2. Supply and demand. If corn is needed for fuel, until there is an excess of Corn, corn is going to go up in price. Cause and effect. How much money does OPEC give American Dairy and Corn farmers?........... NONE.
So money going into the pocket of Americans (just not the ones you want it to) is bad? Lets say screw it and keep depending on foreign sources for our energy needs and keep Corn and tasty Steak within reach for the common man. That's what is more important right?

Just food for thought (no pun intended). If the corn lobby truly believes ethanol is really that great, why are there so few gas stations in Iowa that pump even E10? It's a scam, and has been from the beginning.

1) The US do buy oil from the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is the 4th exporter of oil to the US after Canada, Mexico and Nigeria and Iraq is the 6th. US domestic oil accounts for less than 30% of its needs
http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/p...nt/import.html
2) Europe imports only 13.80% of its oil from the Middle East and it's the 4th largest source. The largest sources are the FSU (formerly USSR) with 39.61% of oil imports, Europe itself with 24.46%, Africa with 18.95%. America accounts for only 3.19% of EU oil imports.
