Default New build issue

I cranked the motor over a few times with plugs out it sounded okay, now I started the motor and hearing noise in teh cam chest, just loud noise like a noisy top end. I shut it down after a few seconds, if I did anything wrong how long would it take to show up, could it be just oil not circulating there yet?

Pull the plugs again, crank it a few times and see if you see any oil pressure. If you don't you might have got the pump wrong. If the washers are in the wrong location between the gerator gears you will have no oil pressure.

If you have oil pressure then I would think it's a pushrods adjustment issue or a tapper issue. Does the sound seem more front or rear? If it's equal then I'm gonna shoot for an oil pump issue of some sort.

Might be the lifters just need to pump up.

it takes a few minutes for the lifters to pump up and oil to get to the top end.

I would expect to have oil pressure after about 30 seconds or so. That said, you also have to be careful not to overheat the starter motor.

Agree with mtclassic. You may not be able to generate enough oil prssure to turn off the oil pressure light by spinning with the starter. Fire it up and let it run for 30-60 seconds if you don't have oil pressure or the noise continues, shut her down and pull the cam plate; you have something wrong there. You could get oil pressure and still have a noisy valve train if the pushrods have not been adjusted properly; they will rattle but have no effect on oil pressure.

Did you prime the lifters or were they installed dry? If dry, it will take the running engine to pump them up, won't happen by spinning the starter. It will also take few seconds longer to stop rattling while the lifters pump up.

If you have coated everything with oil or assmbly lube, you won't hurt anything.
