Default Leaking oil!!!

Since I returned from the beach rally a couple weeks ago, my bike has been leaking oil. It appears to be leaking between the oil pan and the engine case. I can wipe it away and it will leak a few drops while just sitting there overnight. Anyone else had this happen? Anyone ever replaced a gasket there? How much trouble is it? I don't understand what could have caused it.

Check the trans right hand side plate bolts, look carefully at the exhaust mount as yours is a pre'08 as these tend to back out and then to leak. If it is more to the left side and you are not seeing considerable oil loss check the primary output seal this will also wet the belt.

I came back from Thunder beach and mine did the same thing. It was the front bolt on the left side. I have cleaned it since and there seems not to be any more that I have found. Just a couple of drops to scare me. I took it to the car wash and hosed it down good and have been keeping an eye on it and it has not started back. Hope you have the same good fortune.

Mine's an '09. When I finally got around to checking the trans cover bolts (as everyone has suggested) they had both backed out and were MIA!! After finding some suitable replacements and torquing them to spec, I now keep a careful eye on them. I mentioned it to a freind and he checked his and both were loose enough to spin the washers. He now checks his regularly, too.

Thanks! That is exactly what it was. Almost every bolt on that tranny side plate needed tightening. Two were so loose, the two holding the exhaust bracket, that I could turn them by hand. They now have lock washers and loc-tite.

Back them out one at a time, clean them, and put blue loctite on them.
