Default Size Matters

I'd like to remove my rear wheel and have an indy install a new tire for me. I have the shop manual for my bike but I can't find any reference to socket or wrench sizes needed to turn the axle "weld" nut on the left side or to remove the "cone" nut on the right side. Matter of fact I can't find a reference to any fastener sizes...just torque numbers.

Anyone know where in the manual or other place I can find fastener sizes and/or the size of these particular nuts?

Thanks,

VR

I use the trial and error method to find the right size. The one I chose to use is too big or small I try another. Has always worked for me. Don't try to make it to complicated!!

Crescent wrenches, here we call them Arkansas Socket Sets. Takes all the thinkin' out of it.

Well, I've tried the sockets and wrenches that I have and I don't have anything big enough. I'd rather not randomly buy larger sockets and wrenches. I don't even know if I need SAE or metric.

Measure with a tape. I would assume SAE not metric.

I have a 2006 streetglide and the rear axle nut is 36mm . I don't believe they changed them from 2002. Hope this helps you 06-bugs.

I think you and Hawg20 have the most practical answer to the question. I've got some big crescent wrenches and a tape measure. I'll take them to Sears or Auto Zone and see what fits the tape/crescent wrench.

My '08 is a 36mm or whatever the SAE equivalent is, I believe it's 1 7/16".

Exclamation Rear Axle Nut

Georges Garage has a special tool that allows the cone nut to be removed without pulling the right side muffler. It's a lot cheaper then the HD tool. You can use a fit-all for the axle side. Don't forget to put the torque wrench at a 90 degrees angle from the head of said wrench.
