Decision Time - Your thoughts?
If you are going with the stock stage1 or 11 kit the performance increase is minimal. It's there but not what you might expect. A good set of cams with a tune will yield impressive results to an otherwise stock 96. If you choose to go with any of the reputable builders for a 103, your gains will be sufficiently more. I suspect you may be doing that with the money you are spending. Maybe ride it as is if you plan on selling in the near future.
Good luck with your decision!

For the riding style you describe, a change in cams would help immensely. I have to se204 cams in my 96 and it runs really well from 2500 rpms up to the rev limiter. I ain't no wrench so call fuel moto. Seldom does anybody talk of the 204 cam, so don't listen to me, ask someone who would really know the engineering qualities of cams for your style of riding.
