I had recently changed the fluids on my 2010 EGC at the 1000 mi. service. When I drained the primary I used a small pan and then poured the oil into a clear bottle (see picture) I then set it aside and when I went to dispose of it several days later I was amazed at how it had seperated. About the bottom 20% is clear or close to clear. My first reaction was it was water but logically it doesn't make sense since this was factory installed. I then thought some sort of additive but then wondered why it wouldn't mix. So tonight I tapped the bottom and drained some into a clear jar. Well it sure looks and feels like water to me. Can anyone tell me what this is from other than water? WTF over...
I will say that that last weekend I drained all fluids which were HD SYN and I wiped out the drain pan with newspaper, threw the paper in the trash can, some of it leaked out on the ground from the drain hole in the can and it looked like vegetable oil on the ground, i saw this on monday, by this morning the spot on the concrete pad under the trash can where it had leaked had all but dried up and farted dust.
This experience, and your mystery oil makes me glad I went back to Dyno Oil and HD Primary & Tranny fluid.
I think it is water from condesation inside your primary. I change my primary fluid once a year ( 5 to 8K mi), and I going to do what You have done to see if it has water in it.
