Just dropped off the RK b4 my warranty expires to see if I can do something about the stock compensator and a few other minor issues (steering head keeps coming loose idk why). The tech that worked on my bike gave me a call and said the king is in great condition, possibly due to the fact that i change all fluids every 2500 miles and only use synthetic oils. The only thing he said he was concerned about was that compensator, I had the classic symptoms that indicated it was getting weak, he told the sales manager what he thought and they agreed to change it to the S/E compensator and I will pay the difference. The techs exact words about it was "You should get that junk off of there"

What were the classic symptoms? I've been noticing an extra "clunk" when shifting thru all gears. Clunks once when actually shifting (I think that's normal), then clunks again when letting out the clutch lever. I haven't noticed the "starter clunk" like some others have described though. What were your symptoms?
They took everything apart and called me back with a $550.00 price tag and said they could not find anything wrong with the part so HD would not allow them to cover it under warranty, I did not truly believe this, due to the fact that other than the part being totally destroyed, how would they know exactly what to look for to determine that the part is performing below its intended function. And I also stated the fact that just the day b4 they were willing to do this for me, and I listened after the salesmen explained again that if they would have found something wrong with my compensator that they would do this for me with no question, this is the reason they took everything apart, expecting to find at least something. I did however have a heart to heart with the tech and he assured me that there was nothing wrong with it now, and he doesn't anticipate me having a problem with it anytime soon, it was just his personal opinion that HD missed the mark with this design and all bikes should at least have the S/E comp as his personal bike does. All in all I spoke to soon about that deal ladies and gents so I lost out on this one.
