Default to lower or not to lower?

I have a 2010 Limited and I have done some minor changes to it I want to add some sweet rims, I like the look of the lower bikes. IS my limited that kind of bike like a SG? Will lowering the bike change the handling of the bike? I am plenty tall for the bike. will this lowering make me feel akward on the bike and will lowering limit my choices for the rims I want to purchase. I like the Perfomance Machine stuff I really like the contrast balck and chrome rims. Tips on this would be greatly appreciated.

My take…
Hey big guy don’t do it; I’m 5ft 6in and installed shorter shocks on my Ultra. You’ll be scraping more during turns. Plus it seems you weigh more also which could make you bottom out easier during bumpy road times…. You should be fine changing out wheels if you want and if you stay in sane perimeters and do not get too big of wheels. 18in is user friendly for front and back……… good luck

Take a SG for a two-up demo - then you'll know!

Bakersfield??? BAKERSFIELD???? Remember Cast away? Just a joke!

Yeh thanks for the tip. My cuz had a SG, but he sold it before I was home to take for a spin, he has become trader and gone Honda, a rune or something like that, and I have become Patriot and went HD, figures. I have only sat on one at the dealership. Lame I know, but it did seem like my knees were up a little high. From the mr. Baker prior to your post I'm very weary of lowering it down to SG standard. I was not really sure to go that low in the 1st place. THis bike handles better than an R6 I used to have, a Valkerie and far better than my last three goldies. I really do not want to screw that up. Just want it to look bad *** and haul ***.

completely different question but I have Klock werks Slipons with stock headers. I was thinking about getting the V&H power duals and changing the air intake when I get home, do I need to change the slipons to V&H, or can I keep the air make, header make and muffler make different. As you might have guesses I am not a wrench.

+1, I scrape boards enough without lowering my Ultra. I rented the lowered bikes and 2 up touring is not as nice. I would not give up any suspension travel period.

I think, eventually, I'm gonna give the 940's a shot from Progressive. Allegedly, they're an improvement over stock, yet lower rear bike height by an inch. Do your homework of course, and I know that there are a few threads dedicated to this subject. Here's a little background from J&P. Good luck. Let us know what you decide.

Default Lowering

I have a 2009 Street Glide. At an inch lower than regular touring bikes it already rides stiffer. I have lowered the rear up to three additional inches, looks cool but rides like S%#t. I now have Progressives 940 ultra touring shock, what a joke for a lot of money. When installed the small spring on top is compressed all the way without even sitting on it and they bottom out way to much. Should have bought their regular shock for a lot less.
