Well I have a year left on my extended warranty, so this should be covered, yes?

No, at least on '07 and later Touring they don't. However I am wondering if they are using nylon bushings which, theoretically, do not need greased. On my '03 Softail I used to take the shifter shaft apart and grease it but it eventually caused the nylon bushings to swell up and the shaft to bind up. Unless there is a problem with the shaft sticking I would not introduce grease if there is no grease zerk.

Pingel Shift shaft

It doesn't look like it has room for the heel shifter. Does it have room for both?[

It has two slots for the shifter bolts.

Thanks, indeed it does. I had a dyslexic moment and thought the Zerk fitting was on the shifter end.

I wash my bike a lot . . . I know, I know . . . I'm picky.

As a result, a lot of water gets into that shaft. On my 07, the shaft started getting sticky. The fix was to remove the shaft and apply never sieze. That is until I heard of this part. Put one on my 07 and the problem wasw solved.

One of the first mods I did to my 11. You can hardly see the zerk fitting on the inside. One quick shot of grease every other wash and I'll never have a problem shifting.

I know it's not a cheap part BUT it is a very well built and practical part.

Very, very common problem, I have stopped and helped a few along the roadside that lost the shifter and one lost the whole shaft. This is a normal service item that at a minimum, every oil change tighten all of the bolts on the entire shift assembly. If you strip the one at the tranny, now you have bigtime issues.

As far as I know, there is no nylon in this area. It is the aluminum primary case and the steel shaft. If anyone can prove me wrong, I apologize. Otherwise, I still believe in this part.

BTW, on my 07, I drilled the case and installed a zerk. Later I installed a chrome inner primary case and that's when I found the Pingel part and installed it. Worked so well that I had to have one on my 11.
