Couldn't wait 2 weeks for an upgrade? What was the hurry? Did your compensator actually fail? How much is the other dealer charging to install it?
Would you like a little cheese to go with your whine?

In my buisness I will not install anything that was not purchased from me. I can not warranty or support products purchased else where, and my liability insurance prohibits it. I reccomend to customers they get it installed where they bought it or send it back

Is there any wonder why they are called STEALERSHIPS?
You are "right" on the money bobbyduece.
Good customer service is what MOST Stealerships DON'T offer.
They are prepared to OVERcharge you, use TERRIBLE workmanship, install DEFECTIVE parts and then have their "loyal" following defend their actions.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!

I recently purchased a 2003 Road King. I will need a rear tire and 30k service over the winter, and shopped all the local HD dealers. There are differences in prices for same service and parts plus winter storage. I chose one where my storage is free but they count parts AND labor toward winter bill (free storage with $500 spent). The dealer closest to me gave free storage with $750 in parts (no installation). Another dealer was $500 in parts, no installation counted.

Since I haven't had my bike very long and don't really know the history, I prefer a factory trained service. After this winter, I will decide. One dealer offers a complete Stage I big bore and winter storage for about $1500. Maybe next year.

Would you expect a Mercedes dealer to install an oil filter purchased at Auto Zone when you take your $125,000 Mercedes in for an oil change?

If you expect your dealer to install parts purchased elsewhere you might want to confirm that understanding before you buy that new bike.

If you expect your dealer to install parts purchased elsewhere you might want to confirm that understanding before you order that discounted part from another dealer.

Bobbydeuce has every right to expect the dealer he bought the bike from to install the part purchased elsewhere. He just isn't in a postiion to make that decision. He is in a position to take his business elsewhere.

The issue for the dealer is not only the lost sale/profit on the part sourced elsewhere. If I understand correctly if a dealer has to do warantee work they have to include the invoice #/PO # for the replaced part on their claim to Harley to be reimbursed for the replacement labor. That's not going to happen if the part is sourced elsewhere.

Anyone confirm my understanding.

I always dealt with Fullerton HD over on Orangethorpe. Westminster is ok, just not a great selection of parts since they're in an odd location.

Fullerton gets my vote for Service and Manners. And since they're in the low rent district they run more specials.

OCHD has to pay for that huge warehouse and parking lot that would hold 600

BTW: This is normal for Indy shops too. My local Indy charges me $70 /hr. for parts bought from him. It's $80hr if you BYOP..

What it amounts to is an extra hour of labor per day to deal with you forgetting a gasket, having to return a part for RMA, and generally losing out on GP from parts bought through them.

i am an automotive repair shop. i dont take my eggs to your restaraunt and i wont put your parts on if you buy them somewhere else. i keep customers and grow my business by giving top notch service. NOT by being the cheapest in town. then there is the liability issue. dont care what kinda waiver or disclaimer you want to use a court of law will and can still find you liable even if you "didnt supply the parts".

I bought my 2009 Ultra from Westminster. Since Feb 2009 I've been to them 10 times for warranty related items. 3 of the times I got as far as the driveway only to have to take it back and have them fix something their mechanic ( I'll use that term loosely) screwed up while fixing the original problem.

I only will use them for warranty work!

Anything else I take it to Cyclepath Cycle. http://www.cyclepathcycle.com/index.html

If after the warranty is up in Feb. 2011 and I need dealer work done, I'll try Fullerton HD.
