Is there any difference between true duals vs slipons. If so what advantage do you get. I have an 07 UC EG. I bought a pair of SE slipons but not sure if its what i want, they are still in the box....
Slip on mufflers sre just from the back of the pipe and retains the crossover pipe which is very much like a 2 into 1 system. true duals are from the head or jug back and eliminate the crossover. They are called true duals because 100% of the exhaust from each cylinder comes out of its own pipe. In the normal stock set-up 90% of the exhaust comes out of the right side. Placing your hand about 4 inches from each pipe will show you how much more pressure is coming from the right side.True duals can be a much better performing exhaust especially at top end. However, true duals must be finely tuned with usually a screaming eagle race tuner(sert) or dyno jet power commander. Many other tuning devices are on the market but these are the best known. Bottom line is that true duals can be better performing than just performance slip ons but get ready for some serious money. A good set of true duals and performance slip ons will run you 800.00 plus 450 for a race tuner and about 200 for a dyno tune. Slip ons will run you about 400.00. Remember the old saying: " IF YOU PLAY ,YOU PAY".
I put V&H slip-ons on my RKC (I was waiting on the dresser duals to be released).
I didn't care for the sound of the SE slip ons they are selling now. I had a set of SE II slip ons on my sporty and they sounded great. Seems to me the new ones have been toned down.
Oh and by the way the vance & hines oval slip ons ROCK. Nice mellow, low tones harley exhaust note.
Simply, slipons will give you better low end torque and mid range power than true duals which rob your low end and help on the upper rpm range, A balanced exhaust has been proved to work better than two seperate pipes, not to say the stock exhaust is a perfect balance it is more like a 2int 1 system with the right side handling the majority of the exhaust.
For a great combination in balanced performance, sound and appearance, true duals are the way to go. If you want to completely eliminate clamps/gaps, really the ONLY way to go! Take a look, it's up to you. A stock exhaust system belongs....in a dumpster.[>:]
