muffler is yellowing on the right side. what could be causing this ? i am planning on replacing and was wanting to get opinions on whether to go with new slip ons or true duals and which brand to buy for each. thanks in advance.
Seems that this affects some brands of exhaust more than others, not sure if that's due to chrome quality or what. Heat is the main culprit and reducing heat in the exhaust system will help. This can be done either by adding Xied's or a richer tune. I had read that adding a good tune would reduce exhaust temps, but when I finally did it I was still surprised at the reduction.

Leak? Make sure the connection with the header is very tight. If not, re-tighten the clamp. You can also put high temp RTV sealant between the flange of the muffler and your head pipe. This will eliminate any risk of leakage.
Then you can use Blue Job to eliminate the yellowing.
As for slip-ons vs. true duals, IMO, it's not one vs. the other, it's both. If you like the sound of your mufflers, keep them and get a set of true duals and you'll be glad you did. Exhaust temperature will drop and your slip-ons will sound much better. If you don't like the sound of your mufflers, then get both.
I have V&H Dresser Duals and love them. My slip-ons are CFR and I love them even more than the true duals.
It doesn't matter what you do , they will yellow, when you get over 30,000 miles on them.
Just look at it as charm added to the bike, if you want pipes with no yellow, get some SE ones with covers, I have heard if you ceramic coat the inside before you use them they will go a long way without yellowing.

Did your bike come with a catalyzer and you recently removed it?
I'd like to understand if those who remove their cat shift their hot spot towards the rear, close to the point of flow restriction because I've seen a few bikes where the slip-ons have heat marks in the middle.
