Highly unlikely to happen if you had checked/re-torqued a couple of times after the initial install. Wise to inspect ALL fasteners on a regular basis...just common sense!
The latest in the litany of issues with the bike from hell. I took the bike to work last Friday and on the way home, noticed it getting hot, and also exhaust note sounding funny. Was only a mile from home, so I nursed it home, parked it, and went to get a beer. Back out in the garage, and guess what? Rear jug pipe has vibrated loose, missing one of the nuts, and the other one soon to come off. I was floored. When I looked closer, I did not see any evidence of LocTite, or even some type of lock washer on the nut. How the "F" do you keep this from happening again? And oh yeah, why did it happen in the first place? Everyone else raves about their true duals, and I like these, but I need to know how to keep this from happening again. I guess I start by not letting the dealer do anything else. Anyone else run into this, and what did you do to solve it?
Thanks,
G
you gotta recheck the manifold bolts after 100 miles or so...i do it at 500 just to be sure....never loctite exhaust...heat makes loctite turn loose and then you have lubricated threads
Mine loosened up on me too , but never fell off. I had the older model with the welded bracket on the rear pipe. The brack broke , I think they now use some type of a clamp system now. If you have the bracket that's welded to the pipe I'd check that too. It's in the center right in front of the battery.
oh..biggie here....dont tighten em when its hot...let it cool and you'll do much better...acoupla re-tightens should be all you need...here's another little trick....when you put the slip-ons on, glub em up with copper gasket seal, and put the clamp on at the open end of the slit cause its gonna tighten better if you tighten the slit instead of the pipe
