Default Exhaust Gaskets

Question on the stock gaskets. There is a thin side and a thicker side. Which side goes towards the engine and which side goes towards the exhaust pipe?

Thick side goes in. It tapers toward the outside.

If your installing an aftermarket head pipe that is noy tapered and has the square flat end you should use the screaming eagle square gaskets. The stock headpipe is tapered and if you set the stock crush style gaskets up to the head pipe you will see how it should fit together. If you try to use the stock crush style gaskets with an after market headpipe that is square and over tighten the head pipe while installing you could crush the stock gaskets down and could block some of the exhaust flow which might hinder performance. Yes, thick side in, James Gaskets also makes a square style gasket, your local indy probably stocks them.

I am installing the Jackpot HeadPipe from Fuel Moto and thought since I was in there I would just go ahead and put in new gaskets. I believe you would call these square, but Jamie has indicated that they usually don't replace the gaskets. I intended on torquing them in to the specifications indicated in the manual.

I used the stock gaskets with 1,400 miles when I installed the FM 2-1-2 head pipe.No problems.

Which set up did you buy and which tuner did you use? I purchased the headpipe and dyno tuned muffler combo and Arlen Ness stage 1 Big Sucker. I am going to tune with the TTS - got an appointment with Doc all set up.

I bought the 2-1-2,Jackpot Dyno Tuned's,PC5 and the K&N.
I like the sound of the Jackpots. Not loud at idle or cruising at freeway speeds(can hear radio)but they make noise when on the gas.
