If you don't mind loosing some space for piece of mind, then they're a great idea. As far as dangerous...definitely no more than the bigger reserve sitting between our legs!

Considering the lack of a reserve on EFI, seems like a great idea.

Default Saddlebag gas container

I bought one from JP Cycles, and it saved my butt on the Alaska Highway a few weeks ago. Some of the stations are closed on Sunday, and I was too far from Fort Nelson to make it on what was left in my tank.

Lesson learned, when riding the Alaska Highway, ALWAYS refuel when you get to a half tank.

I too have one and will say it's worth every penny i spent on it. I was on the east side of Indy. when my low fuel light came on. I looked up and saw the sign that said 5 miles to the next exit, no problem I thought. well about that time they shut the interstate down for a wreck and a hour and a half later I still had 2 1/2 miles to go. the bike started to sputter so off on the shoulder I went open up the bag and dumped in the extra gallon I had then back on the road.
I will say that it is a good quality gas can. it was very hot the week of the 4th and it didn't build pressure and there was never any hint of gas smell in the saddle bag.
I'll never take a trip with out it again

I learned that lesson in Iowa and again in North Michigan! Didn't need to go as far as Alaska.....

I have just spent the time to read this entire thread.
From what I see, those that don't like them are trying to convince everyone that they will "Blow Up" if they use this can.
Or they can buy a cheaper can to use at Walmart or some other store.
Well, I trust this "Made in USA" can more than the ones sold at Walmart that are Made in China.
And some say that there are not areas that don't have a gas station to get gas.
Well, I don't put just any gas in my Harley. I only use Quality Fuel. You might find some Mom-N-Pop station or the local 7/11 owned by the Iranian but ran by the local teenager that has water in their gas.
I do run cross country and all over Southern California. On day trips and vacations with 6 gallons, I have come close to running out. Once I was on a run with a group. I didn't pay attention to the fuel level when I started. But when I was near the end, I saw it and could not stop until the end. I ran out just as it ended. But I did use it once coming home from work. I was trying to get home before I refilled. Glad I had it.

So, if you don't like it, don't buy it. I love it and found the price to be different at different places. The best price I found is the local Harley dealer, Quaid Harley in Loma Linda Ca. It was only $24.99 and I got a HOG discount to pay the sales tax.

Keep in mind that one can always treat their spare gas with "Sta-Bil". It's rated to keep gas fresh for 1 year. I have found on my rarely used boat, I still have 6 year old gas treated with Sta-Bill back in '05, it still starts on the 1st key turn once a month and I run it for about 15-20 mins.

If I can get those gas containers for $25 or less, I'll buy 2.

There you go... sums it up

I found it to be a good idea and is why I posted it....

It was an FYI moment for those that see it as a benefit....

And yes, there are places in SoCal that if you are not paying attention gas can become a serious issue... not all of us live or ride in LA

395 is a good example north of mojave
