Default Pingel Electric Shift Mod

A friend can no longer move his left ankle (drop foot) after nerve damage during a surgical procedure. He can't move his ankle but with a use of an ankle brace, he is mobile and can hold up a bike. However, he isn't able to move his foot to shift.

He's installing a Pingel Electric shift to allow shifting up and down using handlebar mounted switches. http://www.pingelonline.com/eshifter.htm The video of the application looks pretty impressive.

Does anyone here have any experience with these kits? Looking for any tips regarding installation problems or snags. We're also curious about their reliability and impact on the tranny. Even though it's designed for WOT clutchless shifting, I figure it could still be used just as a shifter and the clutch could be used while shifting if desired.

FLTR2008TRIKE and grimm both here on the forum have had or do have pingels. I would PM one of them. You might get better responses in the hacked, triked and trailering section.

I used one on my dragbike for years. It was a first generation. Had some issues, but Pingle helped me through them. It worked very good. I didn't care for the little buttons it had, so pingle put BIG buttons on it. It had a five second delay that you had to initiate after start-up, but I had them de-program that from the unit, didn't need it for racing. I changed dragbikes, so I don't have the system anymore.
It had no adverse effects on the tranny, shifting clutchless except you don't want to shift gears with the engine turned off, you'll bend the shift forks in the tranny. That's why they put a delay in it that resets when you turn the key off.
It is a good system and has it's merits, and it mounts up very clean. You can see it on the attached picture.
