I have a Memphis Shades 9" windshield on my Ultra. I bought the T-Bag (three pouch) windshield bag and cannot get it to fit properly. It should be easy enough (loosen the three screws holding the windshield to the inner fairing, slide the bottom piece between the fairing and the windshield and screw it tight).
Problem is that when I try to tighten the screws, the T-Bag slips out of position. After fooling around with this for a while it seems that the angle of the windshield is not the same as the T-Bag and when I tighten it, the T-Bag slips out of position. The part of the T-Bag that is supposed to be sandwiched between the fairing and windshield is fairly stiff and that is why it slips when tightening, I think. Also, the screws provided by H-D do not seem long enough.
Anyone else have this problem and what did you do about it? Also, is the angle on the stock windshield the same as on the Memphis Shades one? Should be the same. Something that should be so easy is turning out to be a pita.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
I installed one of these bags on my 08' Ultra recently, really dig it!
Angle of bag doesn't match? I don't understand. Try taking the bag and bending the thick leather backing into the shape of your shield/fairing. Do it several times, maybe even more so than the arch of your shiield just to loosen the thick leather backing up a bit. My OEM screws worked fine. The bag should conform to whatever shield angle you have, it's the arch that needs to conform. Start with the center bolt, tighten while holding the shield and bag all the way down into the fairing, then do the same on each end. Don't over tighten the bolts, they will strip out on ya.
Good luck, i really like mine.
Thanks for the advice.
I did not bend the T-Bag back and forth to make it more plyable and maybe that stiffness is why when I tightened the bag, the curve of the windshield pushed it up.
I'll give it a shot.
Thanks.
The metal bracket on the bottom of the pouches should extend forward of the pouches themselves to allow for the angle of the windshield. My H-D one does this but a pleather one I picked up for ease of maintenance did not. There was no way in hell it was going to fit and I had to let the dealer I bought it from try to install it to see for themselves.
