My ex dealer failed to put the gasket back in and I failed to notice it until I parked my bike and water was draining out of the faring. I had problems with my new bike from the get go.. The first year, more time was spent in the shop than on the road..
I was constantly blowing fuses and my start switch operated intermittantly. I lost the cb on an extended ride with friends, and my radio function switch didn't work right.
The shop boss and I had quite a number of arguments about right and wrong.. He ended up purchasing and installing a new audio system..., and installing the gasket as it was intended to be installed. I've not had a problem since, but then I have a new dealer servicing my bike too...

When I had mine painted my painter just taped it back the after the clear dried he released it looks OK mine is Pearl Black I also had him do my mirrors to match, just an extra touch buying a factory painted one does not come with. I would leave the weather strip, don't think you will notice it much once it is all together. JMO
