hard starting
Ok, here we go again. I fixed the rocker box problem. I was not aligning the boxes right, all is good with that. But NOW...........I took off for a 300 mile road trip a week ago for a weekend of fishing and riding. Got up there ok, the weather was COLD..down in the middle to upper 30's. The next day, I checked over the bike, checked the oil, everything was good. So we head further up into the UP of Michigan, nice ride, stopped off at Bond Falls and noticed oil all over the right back side of the bike. The dipstick was GONE. Ok, now I am mad, I am in the middle of nowhere, so I stuffed a rag in the hole to prevent anymore leaking. I stop off at a bar for a much needed calming juice. Another biker was up there with the same motor so I check the oil level. All was good. The bar owner gave me the rubber piece of a crutch to put in the hole. It worked. We headed back south. Along the way I noticed the oil pressure was cruising at 25-30 psi. Not normal. Then I noticed oil puking out of the tank vent hose. NOT COOL.
So, I get home, dumped the oil, replaced it with synthetic oil, changed the filter, changed all the oil actually. Now, I go out and try starting it, it starts really hard. There is some kind of air or "back fire" when I try starting it. When it does start, with a little trottle help, I rev it up some and it spits and moans and chokes at the air breather along with more of that air sound.
What could be wrong? Could the thing be out of timed now for some reason? It runs fine, but oh yeah, the oil pressure is still up around 25-30 on cold idle. I am going to try to take her out and warm her up tomorrow and see what happens. I did let her idle for about 5 minutes the other day to see if oil would puke out again. After it warmed up some, I was able to rev it up some, no oil leak and the spitting, moans, and chokes went away.
Any help is of course nice.
Thanks
Jake
