I say table lift w/ drop tail & sissor jack. Can do anything you want with that set up.

I have a jack but eventually will get a lift for all the reasons mentioned above.

I'd prefer one that (once collapsed) I can roll over, and tilt up against a wall for storage.

If you just do fluid changes and occasional detailing the jack is fine and cheaper. Any major wrenching would be better on a lift less chance of slipping off more expensive too

Harbor Freight makes a really nice, inexpensive lift.

1000 lb lift

Or this: Kendon Lift

I've got both... and a scissor jack.

I've got the Atlas 1500, with side extensions, chopper extension and rear dropout.

I love it!!

I had a jack, worked OK, but I finally found a used Handy Lift lift table locally on Craigslist.

To me, there's no comparison; lift table is the way to go.

I got a floor jack and a lift. Floor jack is great to maintain the front end/change the front tire. Lift hands down is awesome to have. I got mine from Greg Smith Equipment for $600, hold up to $1,000 pounds. Can't ask for anything more and it will last a long time!

Depends on your needs...jacks are good for cleaning, minor wrenching (major too, if you wish) and storage. Lifts are great for major work on the bike. Go with what works, or get the best of both...

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll get a lift. Since my area is 12' by 22' and we have two bikes I think I'll set up the lift to were I can park on it as well. As someone mentioned above I could just pull up into the wheel chock and get off. Should be convient enough and save space. Now I have to decide on what brand.

Thanks

Before the jack I use to do a section of the wheel then roll the bike and do the next section, then roll it again and so on - pain-in-the-***!

And one final point. I'm never concerned with the stability of the bike when it's on the lift. I can't always say that with the jack.

One of these and you don't have to drag your jack out when your cleaning your wheels.
