Default Ultra TP light kit part# confusion... HELP!

I want to add the "Ultra" tail light kit to my "Classic" tour pak. I've found 2 kits that Harley offers, #68012-88E, fits 88-05 and #68172-06, fits 06 & later king tour paks. My bike is an 07 but, I bought the tour pak used & don't know what year it is. Is the difference in part #'s the size/shape of the tour or in the wiring plug ins? Hard to tell in the attached pics but, the tour pak does not have the molded contour (??) on the sides & back. Also, is this kit plug & play... is there a plug under the seat or something to just plug it into?

Thanks for any help,
Dave

its the wiring pins. as long as they're both king tour paks and it's 2002 and later, then it will "physically" fit.

judging from your pics, it looks to be an 04 or later. pull the liner out of it and part number is stamped on the inside of it somewhere.

That TP is pre-2006. Look at the cut-outs for the side lights. Pre-2006 have them just on the side, 2006+ they extend to the lower rear corner.

So, anyone know if the 06 & later lights physically fit the pre 06 tour pak?

just a thought before you go cutting, you loose alot of space inside the tourpak, rectangular things that used to fit, don't anymore.

It you are thinking about more light, look at the rear carrier rack with the LED light kit- works really well, and the tourpak side light kit.

You can check the parts on the Ultra tour paks 2005 v. 2006 and newer using this website:

http://www.shopronniesharleydavidson...idsonparts.htm

The tour pak wiring harness is a three-wire black connector along the antenna cable (under the seat/left side frame rail/under left side cover). It should have ane black wire, blue wire, and red/orange (?) wire IIRC.

If you buy the kit, be sure it comes with the template necessary to cut the corners and drill mounting holes.

FWIW, I'd have it painted to match the tour pak color; similar to a painted inner fairing as a cosmetic improvement for modest cost.

Thanks, Carl. If I can figure this out & order it I will for sure have it sanded smooth & color matched.
