I just sold a 2001 Electra Glide Classic and loved it, it is a pretty solid bike , the negatives are if it is fuel injected it has the older double flap throttle body not the single flap Delphi units, they work fine but upgrades to it are impossible to find, in 2002 they went to a 1" rear axle and different swing arm, the 01's run a 3/4 axle and the swing arms can break however they are easily upgraded to newer swing arms at a reasonable price (several write ups on here how to do it), and that's about it
Upgrades to the M&M Fuel injection are not impossible, but a little tougher. I've replaced several sensors (some for preventative care as they aren't that expensive) and put in new seals with my 95' build. Jamie at Fuel Moto provided a PCIII. She fired right away and has run great all summer. While I didn't go that far, I would still expect great performance out of this F/I system even with a 10-1 compression and an Andrews 37 cam.
My RKC has over 45,000 and I permanently replaced the cam chain tensioners with a Herko chain conversion. Most wheel makers easily accomodate the the axle sizes on custom wheels.
Don't worry HD and aftermarket folks still provide enough customization options to keep you short on cash. Hope this helps.
had one and loved it, in fact sold to my FIL and was riding it yesterday in AZ. Only problems I know of were w/the idle speed/cam tensioners and swingarm issues(all ez fixes) and the good part is that it has a forged crank

Glad I found this topic. I have come across a 2001 RK Classic with 25K miles for 8500. Assuming the owner is telling the truth in that this bike has never been down and it has a clear title....sounds like a pretty decent deal, right?
I am looking at getting my first HD, and this bike seems like a good fit.

Thanks for your thoughts, in advance.

Sound like it could be a good deal. Concerns would be the cam chain tensioners. Ask about those. My uncle bought a 2000 recently with a 95" big bore and a few goodies in average condition with 30k on the clock for for $8k. If you can afford to spend more, there is a '02 RKC on the forums here in the classifieds and its loaded up with goodies for $15k whick may be a little on the high side but you may get him to come down. +'s are lots of goodies, Delphi injection system, forged crank and 95" BB just to name a few.
