Considering purchasing a 2001 Road King Classic with 16k on the dial. Anything I should be worried about with this year model?

Other than the cam tensioners, that is the best twin cam motor Harley has ever produced. If it has a carb, jump on it. It it has MM injection, do some reading. It's not bad but it can be a PITA...

If it's a classic it will have the MM fuel injection. I have a 99 and it runs like a champ, but if I understand correctly you will have problems if you try to upgrade the motor to much

Also the owner is wanting $8600 for it. Thought about shooting him a counter.

My only issue would be one of upkeep. A 13 year old bike with that low mileage, hell it may still have the original tires on it. I'm at 36,000 miles and my bike is only two and a half years old.

See if he'd be willing to have it checked out, or let you arrange for it to be checked out by a dealer or a indy just to be safe.

Just bought a 2002 flhri for $8,000. has 31,000 miles on it. Upgraded the cam tensioners, cost about $700 for everything. Have him fire it up and see how it runs.

I bought an '02 Fatboy last fall with 16K on the clock. Guy was asking $7500 but I brought up about the cam chain tensioners and asked if he would split the cost of having the bike checked out. He countered by dropping the price to $6500, sold. I checked it out myself and everything was good to go. Put some new tires and have put 2k miles on it this winter with no problems. You might do something similar and use the "checkup" as purchase leverage. It should be good to go if it runs good.
