you need to look into some quality ultra light camp gear. We can pack for a several day trip on the Ultra without carrying a trailer. I had a trailer and swore when I got back home from Sturgis this year that I would never tow it again. It went on ebay the day I got home from Sturgis and was sold by the following weekend.

And would you elaborate as to why and give us some details?

Thanks for all the replies guys....MAMA is a keeper..so if she wants to camp god bless her.......I've thought of campers, trailers, toy haulers...you name it I've looked at it....what I(we) are looking to do is take a 3/4 day trip out set up a Base Camp and explore from there. As far as camping gear I've got everything but when you think about cooking ...it kinda throws the no trailer idea out the window.I'm not talking about a bowl of cereal but actual cooking a meal.Like the Gear idea but wonder about high revs when not towing. Please keep them coming...even the ones that make MAMA laugh....yea she reads this stuff also. Thanks you guys make me laugh too.

Agree with finding the lightest trailer and gear available but gearinng is the cheapest solution. You didn't say what year the bike is but convert the primary to 24/37 motor and clucht sprockets ($450-$500) should do the trick. I would also suggest that you get the trailer, put some stuff in it and take a shorr tide to get used to the different handling; it is a completely different feel. Someone has already pointed out that stopping is more the issue than pulling; you will have to learn to allow more distance for stopping and, for God's sake, don't put your self in a situation where a full on panic stop is necessary; you amd Mama will both wet your pants.

My trailer weighs 130lbs empty. With all the camping gear and cooler still under 300lbs. The wife and I went on 2 different week long camping trips this past summer and had a great time. As you can see in the photos, we didn't do without.

25 years riding and camping with the wife onboard. Have it refined to a great back packing tent and good sleeping bags. A back pack tent like a good Eureka will have aluminium poles for lite weight and packs small. No trailers for me. We have met some great people in camp grounds. Motels it seems everyone just goes to their room at the end of the day. Camping has its advantages. There is almost always room for tenters on a bike. Give it a try for yourself. Getting set up won't cost more than a few nights in a motel anyway.

It is an 06 Street glide...running about 80/80 dyno with the cams I have. The gear change sounds the cheapest way to go but wander if it will limit my top end speeds when I don't trailer.Got light gear just can't do the cooking I want to do on the road without extra crap. Thanks for all the responses keep em coming.

After owning a few campers......we went back to tent camping.
On the road or at a rally, the fun really starts in the campgrounds.
Feel kind of sorry for all those that hunker down in the hotels & motels.
