just bought my first 2005 ultra classic, love the bike, but it seems to me that there is just alot of wind comeing up and hitting me frome the bottom of the bike. the front is fine just the air from the bottom. my fareing does not have the extra deflectors on the side nor do i have any on the forks. what do i need?

Yeah, there are some fork mounted deflectors that can reduce that windflow.

And you mean that your hard lowers don't have the adjustable vents?

The fairing lowers work great on my '09 Ultra and they are not that expensive.

Dark Smoked Fairing Air DeflectorsDark smoked material to complement the Dark Smoked Wind Deflector P/N 57185-05 or 58207-04. Designed to deflect air away from the rider's elbows and upper torso. These easy-to-install Air Deflectors reduce the draft behind the fairing.

part # 57740-05

Fits '96-later Electra Glide®, Street Glide® and Trike models.

MSRP US $39.95

The type that come on the new bikes are movable; and I'm sure they'd fit your bike but I didnt see them on the HD site.

Id try the fairing deflectors first. I don't have the aftermarket fork leg deflectors and I don't have a problem.

For about $35 bucks at one of the online dealers that discount I'd say that's a pretty cheap way to start out. I'll bet it solves your problem. Try Chicago HD or Zanotti HD

1. Get one of these (58520-79TC picture below). Reduces air coming up in front of the tank and it's one of the best pieces of chrome you can buy for $24.95.

2. Add either stationery or adjustable fairing air deflectors. The current OE adjustable wind deflectors can be installed on a 2005 bike with a little modification (one extra hole)

Vented lowers either open or closed won't have any affect on air flow above your knees.

I thought the fairing air deflectors were going to be overkill when i bought my Ultra... Ended up really appreciating how much they help especially on the interstate. They really take the edge off a chilly 80 mph morning.Between the fairing deflectors and vented lowers (which I always leave wide open no matter the temp) I'm pleased with wind management...Haven't tried fork mounted deflectors, doubt I will.
