I also put on the fork baffle as shown in post 8. That stopped the wind coming up from the front of the tank that hits you square in the face, by directing fork air down. The parts manual tells you to remove it in hot weather to help evacuate hot air from around the heads, to help cool the rider, not the engine. I leave mine on year around without problems.

The service manual ('07)only indicates how removing the air dam in warmer weather adds to rider comfort. "By allowing the flow of air to pass under the fuel tank and over the cylinder heads, removing the air dam evacuates heated air and provides some relief to the rider in warmer temperatures (70 degrees (F) and above)." If not removing the air dam in warmer weather had any potential to damage the motor these instructions would be followed by "FAILURE TO REMOVE THE AIR DAM IN TEMPERATURES ABOVE 70 DEGREES F COULD VOID YOUR WARANTY."
What I can't figure out is how the air dam deflects air downward blocking air coming up in front of the tank hitting you in the face while removing the air dam "allows air to pass under the tank and over the cylinder heads". So with the air dam on it deflects air down and with the air dam off it deflects air down?? Is that possible??
I agree with MNPGRider. The air dam definitely blocks air coming up in front of the tank. Leave mine on all year round. Great looking piece of chrome for $24.95.
spend less than $100 and buy the chrome wind deflectors that attach where the passing lamp bracket bolts in and they run parallel to the forks. Has kept the wind from coming up into my face better than other solutions for my Ultra and had them on my Heritage with great success too.
There have been a number of referrals to front fork deflectors. I don't think I've ever seen them on Electra Glides or batwing equipped Harley's. I have seen something similar I think installed on Road Kings or Heritage Softails. Is this the same thing? Anyone have pictures?
