Get the Ultra. I thought I didn't need it either so I bought the EGC first. Didn't take long for me to realize that I prefer to communiate with a CB or Intercom vs having to scream or use sign language

Its a piece of cake on the trunk. For the shocks, you would need a bike lift, but other than that its easy.

I had my truck fixed mounted on my Street Glide up until a few weeks ago, when I converted it to detachable. Thats why I have the parts. They were purchased new from the dealer. The shocks came off my Brothers 09 Ultra when he wanted to lower the bike.

Keep me in mind and let me know. The stuff is just sitting in my basement doing nothing.

My dealer said it was a $1600 charge and if done before delivery, would be 100% covered by the warranty...

well, having a used 09 EGC in my sights and at a real bargain- I went down to the demo day at the local dealer to make sure that the 96" was going to be ok for me ( I have 2 Evos and a Pan in the garage, this would be my first twin cam).

In succession, I rode Ultra Limited 103, Ultra 96, RG Ultra 103, and CVO 110. same route, some street and the freeway.

For what I do the 96 is just fine and the savings are worth it. The 103 does have more torque and may allow you not to downshift if you are going to pull a slight grade at 65 mph in 6th gear.

Aside from that- the 96 is fine, and the typical air cleaner and pipes will give up some of the torque and HP. I ended up with the used 09 EGC and very happy with the bike and now have 3000 miles on it.

The abs is awesome, the security system is nice too.

The ultra rear speakers wouldn't work with the tbag I use when long distance touring, and I really, really don't need the CB- so the classic is a good choice for me. I have now put on the detachable kit and picked up a street glide seat for shorter rides

That said, Missoula HD had 2010 Ultras in stock with "no charge" 103 kits. That means warranty for the 103 and Montana has no sales tax on bikes, you register it there with a PO box and can save thousands.

BTW just did 1700 miles with my Pal on his 11 Limited, near identical fuel economy, both have air cleaner, pipes and I have XIEDS, he has SERT. At no point did he ever "walk away from me"

Hardly doing any 2up.....just once in awhile. I'll never use a CB or intercom. I had a Gold Wing 1800 a few years back and never used any of that. I want the trunk so I can ditch my full face helmet, jacket...etc when I go places and when commuting too.

Thanks for the good info. The last 96" I rode I remembered it felt like kind of a dog. Either way...if I buy a EGC with a '96....I'll get the 103 kit done especially if covered under warranty prior to delivery.

Good luck Skater. I suppose it depends on what type of riding and or touring you do if any. For me the communications are a must have. It makes it easy to communicate with the group (not necessarily 2up) for a pitstops, while 1 or 2 get hung up at stoplights, making various stops... like I said very screaming and sign language or even having to pull over and wait b/c someone lost contact with the group.

I'm glad the EGC doesn't have the 103 option,I might be tempted.

Once you ride that bike, you'll change your mind for sure. I traded my 07 in a heartbeat after I rode my new bike.

Enjoy your ride and your new FLTRU.

The 96" engine is not a bad engine and has pretty good power. Its not a race bike but it pulls right along nicely anyway. There is some difference between it and the 103", but not as much as you think.

My opinion, the reason H-D does not offer the 103" in the Classic and Ultra is to get you to buy the Limited.
