Ip, obviously these guys don't live anywhere near a big city. Yeah, I know about the keeping honest people honest crap, but like you said.....I also try to make it as hard as possible for them to get it.
I went to a bar "Hogs & Heffers" in NYC a couple of years back. 15 hogs outside. Most of them with locks on them. When it was time to leave 14 bikes were left. One of the ones without a lock was gone. Go Figure!
Must be nice to live in Utopia. In the meantime, I'll keep my Security System and lock.

I don’t really understand your desire to remove a rather pricy piece of equipment that you already own that will at least give you added piece of mine that your bike won’t be stolen, buy hey, to each his own. Despite the fact that you live in a rural area where the crime rate is low, if you do any kind of traveling on your bike at all you are bound to end up in an area that isn’t as “friendly”. I travel quite extensively on my bike and the alarm and siren give me added piece of mind that I won’t wake up in the morning and go outside the hotel to find that my bike has been stolen. Most thieves who know anything about the bikes they are stealing (and I would say that most probably do) would know not to try and take the bike that has the blinking alarm icon on the speedometer. If you’re worried about getting stranded because the battery in your key fob might die then read the owner’s manual about how to start the bike by inputting a security code using the turn signal switches. I know what you mean about the chirp, I hate it too, but it can be disabled. Just follow these directions…
To enable or disable the chirp mode on the smart siren:

The engine RUN/OFF switch must be left in the RUN position (ON) during this entire process.
The fobs must be present as well.

Turn the ignition key switch to Ignition and leave ON until the security lamp goes out. Once
the lamp goes out, turn the switch OFF. The system will arm itself.

Repeat the above process 2 more times. (Key ON, key OFF, key ON, key OFF), each time
waiting for the light to go off.

After this cycle has been performed a total of 3 times, the Chirp feature will change to
enabled or disabled, depending on the current status.

In the chirpless mode the siren does not chirp upon arming or disarming.
The siren will still chirp warnings on movement and will activate through all alarm cycles.

Jeff, it sounds like you also have an alarm. I don't think the basic HD security system has a siren.

mtclassic, as to living in Utopia, that's subjective. I wouldn't consider it Utopia if I had less than a 12-month riding season.
We also are a 'right to carry' state (concealed or not)... but we also have lots of crime.

problem with being able to ride for 12 months is you don't have time to snowmobile, ski, snowshoe and hunt, but I agree everyone's idea of Utopia is different.

If i'm in my motel and the scooter alarm goes off, someone is going to have a Kimber 45 with the lazer light fixed right between his eye's . If you remove it when else can you have a little fun?

The siren is an add on. That's the first thing that's going to go. I just don't want to be having to manually input some code if my bike doesn't want to start and would rather not have the fob hassle either. All I've ever had is a key and I've never had a problem in almost 40 years of riding. If anyone want's Security let me know. The bike is put up for the winter now, I will swap even up for a TSM.
Talk about a waste, I have it on my Jeep Wrangler too. $200+ keys and all!

Not into snowmobiles, but skiing and snowshoeing are only a couple hours away. Then I can come home and go for a ride.
Hunting and a 12-month riding season aren't mutually exclusive.
I spent the first 21 years of my life in the NE and that was enough. Just don't really get into all that weather.
But, it's good that we all have different visions... otherwise it would be awfully crowded.

If you ever leave the safety of NH, that security system might come in handy. Pushing a couple of buttons seems like a small price to pay for some security.
Disable the siren and get a pocket pager.

That's just it. I leave NH all the time. I have never had security and have parked my bikes everywhere from Washington DC, New Orleans, Dallas to Sturgis and it has never been a problem. A pager is just what I don't want. It's just one more thing that can go wrong. I like keeping it simple and a key has always worked just fine for me. If someone wants something bad enough, they're going to get it. That is why I have good insurance.

amen. it makes me wonder why everone thinks what is good for them is good for me....I have been all over the country (put about 15-20,000 miles a year on bikes) and never had an issue and never had a security system until my new RGU came with one. I lock my forks and bags etc and park in places I trust are secure. I am licensed to pack in every state, but I would not shoot someone because they were stealing my bike, unless of course my wife was still on it at the time LOL.

I think if a person wants a security system then they should have one, but I think if you want to disable it you should be able to easily disable it.
