A buddy and I each got a set of the heaters--he has an Ultra. He did remove the outer fairing to install, but I think that was just for the wiring. The hole was drilled just by removing the cap where the ignition switch, loosen the handlebar clamp and rotate the bars down. All in all, a pretty simple job.

I didn't use that brand, but I did install the Heat Demons this past weekend. I had to take the fairing off to make the power connections. I did not have to rotate my handlebars nor remove the ignition switch.
I like the Heat Demons http://www.heatdemons.com/ the kit was complete with a wire snake, glue for the grips, good instructions, and I love the controller, it replaces your bar clamp and looks stock.
