ALOT of all bikes are built in America, ALL bikes have parts made around the world (out sourcing). I've had alot of different ones, I just always wanted a Harley. The sound, the feel and the resale value (which is coming down). I always wave at them all. Half the people in my riding group have Metrics. One guy just sold his Ultra and got a Metric. Another guy I know sold his 06 Ultra and bought a Goldwing. You gets what you gets........
Have you ever looked for a large displacement bike that wasn't a Harley? You don't have many choices that aren't v-twins; FUGLY Beemers, FUGLY Guzzis, FUGLY Crotch Rockets, & Honda Tupperware. My last bike was a 1500 Vulcan that new cost a forth of what I have in my Ultra. I didn't buy it to be a wannabe. I bought it because it was large, reliable, and almost maintenance free. But I got branded as a wannabe so I traded it for the Ultra. It's not my fault the Japs couldn't have an orginal thought if it fell from the sky, landed on their face, and started to wiggle.
Anyone on two wheels is a brother/sister to me no matter what they ride. Feel the same about my Hot Rods. Chevy, Ford- whatever. It's all good!
This guy I work with right now hates that he has a Honda Gold Wing, but it's all he can afford and bought it used. He rents a Harley a few times a year for a few days to remind him why he's working so hard to get one. He loves HD.
If we're talking NON-Harley as being a Metric bike or Victory, I usually think, couldn't afford the HD, or not dedicated enough. Can't blame someone for not affording one, don't know their financial sitiation. Might have 4 kids and a sick mother to take care of at home.
As far as the guys that think their Metric is as cool looking as a HD, their dillusional. Why settle for the copy version? Although, I do have some friends that CAN afford Harley's, but think they're too slow. If you've ever ridden a Honda VTX 1800 with minor mods,(pipes, air filter), you'd understand. I rode my buddies VTX 1800, got scared at 135mph, and slowed down.
I bought a warrior for a winter project last year and joined the warrior forum, and those guys are really into them, but I always got **** for asking why they removed the warrior emblems and after many mods they looked all like softails. I soon tired of it and sent her to flordia to live total miles rode, 40. Resale? lost 1k. You think harley guys bash metrics? Those guys couldn't say a word without telling you why they hated harleys, but every bike they had looked as close to one as they could get it.LOL
There are some great Japanese cruiser-style bikes out there for those wanting to enter or re-enter street riding. The first advice I share to friends wanting to buy is to keep it affordable and reasonably-sized rather than spending $21K on something they should have "moved up" to later.
There's alot of those guys putting H-D emblems on their bikes??? A Star is a good bike from what I've heard and I can't see why you would want to look that damn silly. There's a guy around here with a Vulcan 1500 (water cooled, shaft drive) with Harley-Davidson on the tank. WTF???

Yes see this is what I'm talking about. I've seen it too, WTF!!!!!! That's just wrong........
