Default Oil Circulation Problem with 2011 Limited

Just picked up a 2011 Ultra Limited Saturday. 43 miles later, after some varying speed break - in runs, I felt something was not right. Just felt the power was not there I was expecting. When I pulled into the my garage, I noticed the digital oil readout close to 300 degrees which seemed high based on the short ride. I then checked the oil level and it was almost 2 quarts down. My first thought was the dealer failed to check the oil level.

Took it back to the dealer today to check it. They discovered an oil circulation problem with the 103 engine. The oil was not getting to the crankcase, which was resulting in a low oil level measurement. The Service manager believes it could be as simple as a bad O ring (his words) that resides near the oil pump, or I could wind up with a new engine from Harley. They had already been on the phone with Harley to determine next steps to take, to assess whetner it can be repaired, or whether they will send a new engine off the production line.

What a bummer.

The dealer is solid and the mechanics are good, so and I am not concerned they won't make it right.

I have no idea whether some damage occurred during that 43 miles that could result in a longer term problem down the road, so part of me almost wants a new engine, but that may be paranoia on my part.

The dealer let me pick from the rental fleet so I am on a bike until they get is fixed.

The he mechanic (who's been working on my Harleys for several years now)

Sounds like your dealer is doing right by you...
Let us know how it turns out and what they determine the actual problem to be....

If I were you, I'd use the 3 day right to cancel clause and return the bike to them. Let them repair it and sell it to someone else.

In my state (Washinton), we have a 3 day consumer protection clause in all contracts allowing the buyer to cancel and get a complete refund within 3 business days of the transaction.

That crossed my mind, but I actually purchased the bike last week and waited to pick it up after they had installed some parts I ordered.

Man...Sorry to hear of your troubles. Please let us know what they do for you. That's just Crazy... In 5 years or so on this site (where everyone comes to bitch right) this is the first time I've heard of this happening direct from the factory. I know it's not the first time ever, just the first I've heard of it.

A busted O-ring probably means it's sumping... I hope there is no permanent damage and if there is, I hope they replace the motor for ya.

Not all states have a 3 day right to cancel. California doesn't but we do have a "lemon" law, but a lot has to happen before a vehicle can be returned under that law.

It's not even like you could blame it on poor build quality due to 'get away fever' for Thanksgiving break.
