I'm 5'10 (and a big boy) with about a 30' inseam.....
were they same size, BIG BOYS, i weight 270lbs, i tried the reach seat and it really puts you up on the tank, and a real tight fit on the old jewels looks like cornhusker has the good setup
I appreciate the advise guys.... I'm still not certain which way I'm going to go. I like the look of that Corbin but I think I want a 2-up. The thing that concerns me about the reach seat in the 2.5 inches it will push me forward. I don't want to feel like I'm sitting on the tank. I'm starting to think about the Harley Sundowner deep bucket... I really just need to drop about 1.5 inches and I should be fine.. So many different ways to go!
Side note to Cornhusker.... Is the pic of your bike at the Harley dealer in Lincoln?... looks familiar.... I'm a traveling musician and come through Lincoln quite a bit. I'll be playing the next two weekends at their dueling piano bar.... come by! We'll have a beer and talk about seats.... haha...
Go check out C&C seats. I just got my sport tour for my 08 street glide from them and could not be happier. They will custom make the seat for your concerns.
I would suggest a 2009 - 11 StreetGlide or RoadGlide seat as an alternative.
I have a Sundowner that I use for the long haul and I put the SG seat on as an alternative. Nice seat - got me closer to the ground. I use the HD backrest on both of them
And as a bonus you can pick up a used one at a good price. JMO
I'm 5'3" with a 29" inseam. On my 2011 RK I had the Heritage bars and the Super Reduced Reach seat. The 2011 stock seat is lower and I didn't notice any real difference with seat heighth when the Super Reduced Reach seat was installed. I needed to be forward for comfort reaching the bars. The 2 1/2" forward did make me feel like I was setting on the tank so it does take some getting use to.
Congratulations on the new bike sounds like you got a great deal.
I just traded a Softail Deluxe for an Ultra Limited. I'm 5'7" with a 29" inseam. I put the H-D Reach seat on the Limited, and so far it's working fine for me. You are a little closer to the fuel tank, but that hasn't bothered me. No problem flat-footing the bike.
Seriously ! Slip back down to the dealer and drop a reach seat on your new bike . The forward travel isn't much at all but the curvature and narrowing of the reach seat both drop you lower and let your straddle move down from Holstein to a small Jersey ! Of course I have to tease just a little ; but DO try the reach seat .
Now, the one thing you'll find is that the passenger pillion on the reach is wider -- if this isn't a look you want it's an oops too late if you buy one before you see it on ur bike and sit on it .
Congrats on your buy ; you made the purchase a sweet deal it seems --- just take a deep breath and make yourself try seats before you buy one or change your existing.
I'm a little vertically challenged at least for my Ultra. I got the HD reach seat plus lowered it 1" with progressive shocks and fork springs. Great now.
Thank you all for your opinions... It was very helpful...
I went down to the dealer today as they had my King ready (the new Python Viper slip-on's sound great... well worth the money!).
I had ordered the reach seat that put me 2.5 inch closer. Turns out I was too close for comfort when I sat on it (my thighs were really hugging the tank). It wasn't going to work. Luckily, they had another reach seat in stock that only moves you .5 inches closer. It was just low and narrow enough for me to get my heels on the ground without having to straddle the tank. We made the swap... same price so no difference there. I think I'll be in good shape for next season now.... Sadly, it's time for the bike to hibernate for the winter. I won't get any saddle time until the Spring.....
