Default Chopped Tour Pak Question

Does anyone have a FLHT with a Chopped tour pak mounted in the solo position?
My question is does the backrest on the chopped provide any support?

I have installed the chopped TP on my flht in the solo position and currently have a Mustang solo seat with back rest. It rides find but was thinking of putting the air-wing rack on it and it looks funny without the stock back rest on the TP. It seems like the backrest would be a little further back then my Mustang BR and wouldn't provide much support.

Anyone with pictures and can post them it would be appreciated.

I was kind of wondering this myself. The poking around I've done just goes to show that everyone is different. This is something that is sort of hard test without spending $$.

I really like the support it provides. I am six feet tall and have it in the foward most holes, the back ones where too far back. It is just right for me with the sundowner solo seat.

I can comment only for my '07 SG, but I tried the TP backrest and it was unacceptable. It put the support too high with no support in the lumbar area. I gave it a five-minute ride and that's all I needed. Instead, I'm using the backrest on my Mustang solo seat. Remember that these TP backrests are designed for a passenger and they are sitting higher than the rider where the support is positioned lower than it would be for the rider.

If you buy a TP backrest, have an agreement with your dealer that you can bring it back if it isn't acceptable. I did and brought it back the same day.

I ended up plugging the holes in the TP with plastic car panel plugs purchased on Ebay, the heads painted with touch-up paint. In case you want to do the same, here's the result:

The lanyard lid mount needs some sort of additional support at the lid, as it is only fitted by two flimsy rivets from the factory. OTOH they may have changed the design in the past four years, but in '07 it was clear that the Moco didn't think anyone would be using a TP without the backrest option. I used lock-nuts with the plastic plugs, which self-tapped as they screwed in, and they have held securely for four years. I can provide the specs on the plugs if anyone is interested.

I have mine mounted solo with a C&C solo seat. I added a blood pressure cuff in the flap below the backrest. I can adjust it up or down on the fly with the squeeze bulb and relief valve. Have plenty of lower back support as well as upper support. $15.00 heavy dutty cuff and $15.00 to have my upholstery guy sew in a nylon zipper in the back left edge of the flap. Slide in the cuff shorten the tube to the squeeze bulb. I'm 6'2", short legs and long torso. Works great

iclick has it nailed, I think. The pad is higher than normal for a rider. A lot depends on your seat, too. I use a Danny Gray Big Seat which sets me back farther than a stock or Mustang so I'm looking to get an Anderson adapter plate for the TP to move it back some, it was crowding me.
Yes, i have a Chopped TP on a RK Classic because I wanted some low level security storage and I think it looks great, it's painted Black Pearl to match the 2-tone bike. But I'm not really digging it because my knee is so FU that it's tough to mount and dismount. I think I'd prefer to go back to soft luggage.

I should've mentioned that my setup, which includes a Mustang solo with backrest, required me to move the TP back about 1ź", as the adjuster screw on the backrest was too close to the TP and would've eventually contacted it. I did a write-up here almost four years ago, but be advised that this is for an '07 (probably '08 and earlier, in fact) and may not be valid with '09 and later bikes. This setup has worked very well in this period and provides a comfortable position that I've tested many times on lengthy trips.

Has anyone with an '09 or later bike mounted a Chopped TP on a solo rack with a Mustang seat? Was there a clearance problem like I described above? Also, I'd like to know more about the Anderson plate, as I hadn't heard of it before. I jury-rigged mine, but if an aftermarket accessory was available it would be worth considering.

This is a great idea. Out of curiosity, where would someone buy a blood pressure cuff and squeezy-thingy?
