I pulled mine off in just over an hour had it painted at a friends body shop for the cost of the paint it is without a doubt one of the best mods I have done yet you will be suprised how good it looks.
I'm in the process of doing mine now. New inner faring painted from HD, J&M speakers with LED lighting, amp and spun aluminum gauges. What convinced me was a friend did his and wow what an improvement. Waiting for a few parts which should be here next week so I can finish the job. Tear down was easy, took me around an hour. BTW, this was a Christmas present from my lovely wife. Total was $1890.00 for all the parts.
Get it done and don't be afraid to do something different, make her stand out. I had all the bezels painted gloss black, paint matched the fairing and pinstriped like the rest of my bike. I also had the air dam and cow bells painted.

has anybody pulled their inner fairing off and painted it, or had it painted vs buying a new painted and replace? ill have it off either way, so thinking painting it and replace.
Do it! Best $100 I've spent (took mine off and had it painted) that created the biggest change. Besides it's the one part of your bike you're looking at ALL the time. :-)
I agree with the others. A painted inner faring set you apart from the pack. Paint the one you already have. You will be sure that it fits. A painted inner faring adds that personal touch that not many people take the time to do. I am having mine done in a few weeks with a wallnut and bearl paintjob. It looks like the woodwork inside a BMW.
So I say go for it!!!
