Default Windshield Holddown Screws/Need Advice

Good morning, Guys.
Need some advice from guys who work on their "scoots".
One of the windshield screws on the front fairing mount is not "bottoming out" in the insert.
The screw seems the thread in properly but tightens up on an angle and doesn't bottom out leaving the windshield loose enough to vibrate.
I'm thinking that the screw at some point was xthreaded in the brass(?) fitting and now won't seat properly.
Would it be OK to run a "thread chaser" into this fitting?
Would the normal screw still work or would it become sloppy?

Has anybody from a better widget for holding the windshield in place that's better than the "Harley" solution?

Thanks in advance for your assistance....

Ride In Peace

Are you sure the well nut hasn't separated from the inner fairing?
If this has happened, all it'll do is turn, never tightening.
You'll need to get a repair well nut from your HD dealer.
Pull the old out, screw the new in.

I have a Road King without a fairing but if you have a Fastenal company nearby they should be able to accommodate whatever you need. Surely someone else will be able to give better advice.

You can run a tap in and try to clean the threads up. If it don't work you will have to get some repair inserts from the dealer. I can't remember the part #. Pretty common problem....

It's a common thing, the replacement insert is like one dollar.

Default windshield screws

My nut's all spun. The factory fasteners were too long. I installed new nuts with 5-minute epoxy and shorter fasteners. No more issues and I change shields often.Mix and apply the epoxy with a tooth pick being careful not to get any in the nut threads. Once installed stick a Q-tip inside and clean the excess epoxy out and let dry.
