There's a big jump forward in performance from a stage I 96 to a stage II 103. It's worth doing, but 3K is too much. You can have more done for less money if you shop around.
Exactly right! I guess the best way to say this is a 103" itself is not a big deal. Do up a 96" and away you go, do up a 103" or bigger and giddy up!! It's all relative, pay attention to guys like "Jeff" and "Boogaloodude". These guys know......
i went from a stage 1, 96" motor to a 103" high compression, 259E cams, se compensator, vance & hines 2 into 1 pro pipe, sepst, excellent dyno tuning, etc. i know it'll suck the headlight out of the cvo 110 glides. i used the harley kit, part @27544-10. it's designed for the trike, and as heavy as they are, they need all the help they can get. sure works great on a two wheeler. the torque is really exciting to say the least. the power is in the usable rpm's too, rather than something that's too hyper to actually use. it's a lot of bang for the buck.
Thanks for all of the replys and advice. I thought the price was a bit high. I have my bike set up now with V&H's...Fuel-Pak, Monster Ovals, Power Headers and their high-flow air cleaner. I will have to ck the quote sheet but they were talking SE 225 cams and their tuner etc. 12hrs of labour I know for sure, with 3 additional hrs of dyno time to tune. This sound about right?? From what I am hearing is why bother with a 103"...just go to the 107" or else just do cams in the stock 96"? I take it that going with cams only the Fuel-Pak is not going to work, would need to up-grade the tuner.
Sorry to back-to-back post, but if staying with the stock 96" what cams are the best. Im not too worried about top-end performance, more the roll-on power. Just looking for the best combo and bang-for the buck. Thanks for all the info....

I agree with the others that suggest something other than the HD upgrade. I had my Stage II 103" kit put in when I bought the bike and got it done for about $1600. I don't regret it at all. It runs strong and gives me plenty of low end power.
If my bike was out of warranty and I wanted to beef it up, I would go with a 107" or similar build with non-HD parts.
Didn't realize you already had the stage 1. That being said, you can get a 107" kit from Jamie at http://fuelmotousa.com/107kit.htm for 1,200-1,300 (I forgot which), and have an indy around you install it if you didn't want to do it yourself. Or Jamie will do it all and dyno it for you for just under 2 grand. A great price for what you're getting. Check out his threads on his 107" builds. They're pretty comprehensive and he posts dyno sheets of his builds. And yes, I'd either just try cams to begin with, or I'd go with Jamie's 107" kit. If you're just looking for down low, stump pulling power you'd do pretty well with SE 255 cams. They won't give you the highest peak numbers, but plenty of grunt to them and you can get them cheaper than a lot of the others. Don't know if your fuel management system will work with aftermarket cams or not, but I don't see why they wouldn't. If you wanted to switch, you could get a Power Commander from the same person (Jamie at fuelmoto) for just under 300 bucks and he could pre-program it for your specific set-up, pipes, intake etc...

I had the same questions when I bought my 2010 Ultra Classic.
I went for the Stage 2 103 BB with SE 255 cams, Zippers A/C SE race tuner and it cost me about $2,800.00 Oh yea picked up V & H ovals.
Anyway I see the guys that can get all this done for half of what I paid but I called around and searched and got the best deal I could where I live.
You may do better. I will say this I am more than happy with what I had done.
No lag in throttle response at all. It has no paroblem getting out of its own way.
There are diff. cam sets out there all have there own benefits.
Do a little research and for about $2,500.00 you can get what you want and believe me you will e very happy.
