I would not mount it to the windshield. While taking a 1000 mile trip, the suction mount did not stay on long. I put on the fuel cap cover and experienced no issues after that.

 

Hi, you didn't specify the type of TOM TOM you have, but here is a link to one that I have on my Ultra, see the signature pic for how its mounted. It is also reasonable in price. It mounts easily with only one screw, and locks down tight, never comes off unless you pry it with a non marking pry stick, (Dove bar handle works great

The suction cup will not hold.

For a cheap solution get a Ram Mount. The whole rig should run you about $25.

 

 

Got mine from The MountGuys. This one holds the Tom Tom securely in the cradle. Very easy to remove and install. Mine is for a 330S Tom Tom. Got the shorter arm and the double ball option. Looked for a while to find one like this. Did not like the the one that just holds it by the speaker on the back with the ring. Below is the site.

FWIW - I have a Garmin and use the suction cup to mount on the fuel tank cover. I have used it that way on several trips and not once had a single issue. When I first started doing it I was paranoid about it coming off and checked it very often. It was always secure so I don't worry about it anymore. I like the after market fuel cover mount but don't want to lose the ability to lock my fuel tank cover. The down side is that repeated use of the suction cup will cause minor scratches on the fuel lid if there's any grit on the surface of the suction cup.

 

My Ram mount works great with the added bonus that I can use it for my Contour helmet cam or my flip camera also (with the proper adapter)

 

the suction cup on my garmin sticks great while inside of my pickup, for a while. after some time and changes of temperature, the thing will come unstuck and the garmin will tumble off the dash and down to the floor or somewhere else in the truck. i can imagine that happening while on a bike. this poor old tom tom, trying real hard to stay hooked to the wire plugged into it, but losing the battle and ending up on the highway. short version of this is that i would not trust a suction cup to hold it.
