I have just about 500 miles on my RK........was gonna change the oil out before the winter but figured I would just wait until the 1k mile check. With so few miles on the oil I wouldn't expect any etching etc even sitting for a few months. I do expect probably to see some metal flakes in there when I do change the fluids. Heck I remember seeing metal flakes in my car cartridge oil filter during an oil change I think what you are seeing is normal
hey dawg u know if u take your bike in for the 500 mile they change your oil for free. just thought u might wanna know.
btw way on my 2 new bikes each 500 mile was free. and 1 more thing my compensator is a screamin eagle from the factory all 2011 touring bikes have the screamin eagle compensators. and i dont see how iam so screwed i do have a warranty.

You're right about the warranty. I'd only worry if the transmission started making noise or started shifting hard.
I'm a big believer in Redline Shockproof transmission oil. Have you thought about using it?
My 11 was difficult to get into neutral until I dropped the stock oil in favor of RL.
Last thing - I changed my trans oil at 500 and again at 3000. I drained it into a clean container and checked for metal. Very little found at 500 and none at 3000.

there will always be little grey slug on yur trany plug. maybe little slivers of metal. normal ****.. but if u see huge amounts, then remove yur trany suite case cover. look in lower inside of case, if it is caked up there yur in trouble, mainshaft trouble. so just check that case. only 6 bolts, release clutch cable. it's insurance to look. not to alarm u..
While taking off my cluch release cover, I found some build up of shavings in the lower pockets also on my drain plug. My bikes is a 2008 touring , So my question what would cause the mainshaft/gears go bad, bad clutch adjustments or primary/drive line.
