i was trying to figure out how to get tunes on my rk and in the interim was using headphones and an mp3 player ,then found some inexpensive bluetooth headphones so i did away with the wires ,now i can;t be bothered to get an outloud system .
I think the head phones are a good idea. I have a 2010 EGC and never use the radio. I think the guys going down the road with the radio blasting is quite annoying. It's kinda like, hey look at me, I have a radio on my motorcycle and I'm cool. Plus it sounds like $hit going down the road anyway. I might try the BT headphones but mostly I like hearing the sound of my bike and all the noises around me, like the screeching tires from the A hole in the car that's about to hit you because he has his radio blasting and he is texting at the same time. I think and Ipod with head phones is a good idea unless you want everyone else to hear it.
prior to the fairing I used the Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth Headphones via my Blackberry worked very good, no wires, and would last about an 1.5 hours.
I generally ride with ear plugs. They reduce fatigue, my ears do not ring after a substantial ride and I save what is left of my hearing. Recently I moved from commercial ear plugs to Custom fitted ear plugs from an Ear/Hearing specialist. I like these new Custom ear plugs and am in the process of ording the Custom fitted ear plugs with micro speakers (esentially custom custom fitted earbuds).
I love listening to music while I ride but do not want to change the basic look of my RKC. I also am going to have ear plugs in my ear during all rides and therfore it is no additional effort to have ear plugs with speakers.
I really like having satellite radio on my bike. I don't have it in my car, but I've got it on my bike. I take the fairing off from time to time, especially in late July and August, but really I've gotten to where I prefer the looks of my bike better with the fairing on it.

Hey KCFLHTC I'm with you on this one. Always thought headphones especially ear buds exclude way too much highway/bike/surrounding noise; the kind of highway/bike/surrounding noise that has kept me alive on 2 wheels for the last 40 years. Does anybody else share my concern or am I just being overly cautious. Is "0verly cautious" on 2 wheels really possible?
