Default Tach On A RKC

I would like to add a tachometer to my 2011 RKC. I do not like a cluttered "look" on the handle bars. An addition that gives the feeling of a a factory look is what I would like. Also, to the extent that you have suggestions, can you advise as to all of the needed parts for the set-up.

Best

Get the whole new speed odometer H-D has that has the tach and MPH integrated into a single unit. No clutter and if I remember correctly, you have more than one choice of style.

a buddy of mine has developed a tach holder for a road king that bolts on via the handle bar clamps. this sets the tach just ahead and just above the speedo housing. i believe he is talking to kuryakyn about marketing. it fits with/without a windshield bag such as a t-bag. it's for a 3" dia. tach and it is a very clean attachment. pm if u would like more details.

Default My 2 cents

One of the biggest reasons I put a tach on my bike is I wear a full face and Harley tank mounted speedometer is the pits for checking speed with it on. Not sure about a setup for yours but I went with Harley full billot tack mount which on my bike required me to replace the risers since the caps were 1/4" wider on the bolt spacing. Gives me a heads up display and I use my tack for my speedometer. My friends 04 Road King is Harley's mount which has two bolts through a black wrinkle finished steel plate for the tack cup. Not too impressive

I mounted mine on the handlebars.........(up high, so a small eye movement is all it takes to read it).....but you can put it where you want it. The clamp has 3 swivel locations, that all do 360's.

I used 1/2 of the Harley bar clamp for a soft tail and bolted it to a http://www.techmounts.com/ bracket. They make excellent stuff.

As we speak, I am having a piece made to fit the clamp set up,so it "looks" like it should, rather than make shift. Tried this way first to make sure I liked it, before having the one off bracket make.

I fitted one of the HD combined speedo/tach jobs to my RKC. I ride on the tach much more than the speedo so felt a bit blind without a tach. As has already been said it does need you to look down a lot more than I'd prefer but the bars look clean still.

The choices are to do what I did or do a bracket with separate tach - easier to use but (I think) it doesn't look so good.

Added the accessory HD tach, mount & tapered cover, I find the assembly to be tasteful and not overbearing like you suspect. The tach face matches the speedo and it keeps the theme. The touch of chrome adds a great look, the tach sits in a perfect position to keep an eye on without inhibiting road view. If you go this way, take some time with the wiring, if you follow the instructions it will be hard-wired, this is a pain, I cut the harness inside the headlight cowl and added a connector for ease of removal. I've not seen anyone else add this accessory so my ride stands out from the crowd.
