Default FLHPI hand levers

I have a 06 RK Cop bike. I wanted to replace the stock clutch and brake lever with the black ones from HD, but it says not for police bikes or hyd clutches. My question is are there black ones out there I can get and use?

Dub, prior to the 2007 model year, the reason for exluding police bikes was the cop bikes had a clutch interlock switch in the left hand switch housing activated like the right side brake light switch. The 2007 Touring models included the same interlock switch used on the cop bikes.

If you are looking at the black levers, p/n 44994-07, the pre-'07 p/n was 44994-00 and had the same cop bike and hydraulic clutch exclusions.

FWIW, levers that will work on an '07 RK or EG will aslo work on a cop bike based on the above relating to the clutch interlock switch on your bike being accommodated in the '-07 levers.

Absent someone replying with a more definitive answer, if it was my bike I'd go to the HD parts counter, tell them I have a cop bike, and believe the levers will work on my bike, but want to be able to return them if they don't fit. If they say "yes," give it a shot.

I have an '04 police EG and dealt with the clutch interlock switch years ago by simply removing the switch from the switch housing and using whatever levers were available for civilian bikes which I did when I changed out the police switches and replaced them with civilian EG switches and housings.

If you want to do more homework, ask to see the police and civilian parts catalogs and compare the part nos. for the clutch perch, pin, and other parts used in mounting the levers for the '06 and '07 model RK's. If the civilian pieces are the same as the cop bike, then you'll have an even higher degree of confidence that using the -07 black levers on your bike will work fine.

Owning a cop bike is great, but it does require doing some homework from time to time comparing part nos., wiring diagrams, etc.

Good luck with your project and Merry Christmas.

Carl
