I have an 07 FLHR that I want to upgrade the switch housings (no cruise)to chrome. The problem I'm having is a lot of confusion as to weather 07-08 housings are differant than 06 and older. Some places are saying they are all the same and some say there is some kind of a switch on the clutch side. I have looked at the housing on the Road King and then looked at the housings on my Sportsters and can see no differance.
Can anyone shed any light on this???????
My '07 UC has aswitch in the cover that make you either be in neutral or have the clutch pulled into start. when i changed my covers (which i got of the internet) I had to drill a hole in the new cover to allow the switch to contact the clutch lever (BTW, the clutch lever is also different for '07, it has a tang on it to contact the switch). I first encounterd this difference when I changed levers. The '06 and earlier Kury levers didn't have the tang built in, and it took me awhile to figure out why the bike wouldn't start unless it was in neutral.
I figured it out, mine doesn't have the clutch safety I just when out and hit the starter in neutral with the clutch out and it fired right up, I had never tried starting itwithout the clutch pulled in because the dealer told it had a clutch safety and it wouldn't start without pulling inthe clutch.
Good thing I'm not a brain surgeon!!
This another example of why I never go to my local dealer.

If you're talking about your '07, I'll bet you do have the clutch safety switch. The clutch doesn't need to be pulled in when it's in neutral.
If you have an 07 you do have a safety switch on the clutch side. You can buy chrome housings from earlier years, you will just need to drill the hole for the safety switch...
OK this is what I found since I have gotten several differant answers.07-08 are definitly differant I went out and took it apart and looked, there is a switch in the rear of the switch housing and the clutch lever isdifferantalso it has a tang out the back that pushes the switch. I found 07-08 switch housings on EBAY and Kuryakyn builds 07-08 levers. It appears the pickings are still kinda slim for handles and switch housing that aren't built by Harley.
The difference is the letter code. The 96+ later is still a B. The label is just wrong because it was superseded to a C. Confusion on this happens all the time. If you want to buy a cheap E-bay set of chrome housings, all you need to buy additionally is a new lower left housing for '07 and later. It IS available seperately.
