Just wondering what is different on the newer bikes with the switch that makes it so you have to hold in the clutch to make the bike start?
Just wanting to know what is different in the handle or switch housing area from the 99' that I have. Is there a pin type switch like the one on the front brake?
Is the switch in the handlebar area, or in the engine somewhere?
Will older style switch housings work on the newer bike?
I "think" this might be what you are talking about: I have an '07 and as long as it's in neutral, it'll start right up without pulling in the clutch. If I have it in gear, I have to pull in the clutch, and I believe that the switch for that is located down in the clutch area of the tranny. (I don't have access to my manual right now, it's still back in Memphis, to confirm that, but I'm like 85% positive that that's right)That is to say that there is nothing in the switch housing on the handlebars for the clutch.
As far as the switches and housing from one year model to the next being able to work, I'd "think" that as long as the handlebars are the same size, a switch is pretty much a switch...
The clutch switch on my 07 Dyna is at the clutch lever. Touring bikes may be different, but I doubt it. On mine, you can see it if you look. Transmission must be in neutral or clutch must be pulled in to start.
Same on my 07' Deluxe. For this feature to wrok properly, when changing to aftermarket levers, they have that tab on the lever to enage/disenge the switch. Kuryakyn is only ones that have the correct levers. Most others have not re-engineered there levers yet. I believe has to do with HD patent for 1-2 years...
