this thread was by a member who replaced his PITA windshield bolts on his electra glide with an attractive replacement that was easy on / easy off, rather having to deal with allen wrenches.
Thanks for your help.
Sorry.....do not recall that thread. Have you looked at the local ACE Hardware? The ones here in Indy and where we live now in AZ have a wide selection of different bolts/screws/acorns/washers and even toppers with designs all in chrome.
Have bought a few as decorative, easier to to use replacements for other types of windshields.
I've seen lots of threads about the brass inserts but nothing for easier installation/removal of the screws. I do recall someone slotting the holes at the bottom of his windshield so he could swap shields without completely removing the screws.
What exactly is the PITA about the screws?
You could replace the screws with a different style head or install short pieces of threaded rod and use acorn nuts to attach it.
BTW are you using torx wrenches (I think those may be T-27) or allen wrenches?
I went to Sears and bought a screwdriver handled T27 torx driver.
I have a set of the fold up kind, as well as a set of socket drivers, but the screwdriver handle one works the best for removing the fairing. I seem to take the fairing off about every two or three months, so it's a handy tool to have.
