I am thinking about hooking up my garage door opener to the AUX switch in the fairing since it doesn't do anything on my Ultra....
My questions:
How many switched circuits does it have 1 or 2?
I know it has 12 volts on it, I used it on my old bike for a spare 12 volt light plug socket.
Does it have a set of just switched legs, or it 12 volt only?
I just need a momentary switch for my opener, and I purchased the Trip/reset switch and cap today form the dealer to install, but I may go with the AUX switch instead tomorrow since its free anyways....
Thoughts?
I can always pull the 12 volt input to the AUX after I find it if I have to, sure would like to be able to get to the back side of it easy to tie everything in. I gave my manual for my '06 to the new owner, and haven't gotten one for this bike yet!
Are you hooking up one of your remotes or something like the HD garage door opener?
Either way I believe you can hook them into your headlight circuit (this is where my HD unit is wired) and just have to flash the lights high to low to activate the opener. Works great without having to take the hands off the bars.
My own remote, not Harley. Its only $20 from Lowe's...Just need a quick flick of the switch to run it. Going to Velcro it inside the fairing. Its uses a Lithium battery and the one I have has lasted for two years on different bikes cable tied to the handle bar by the right grip, but I hate the way that looks, so going to put this on inside the fairing and clean up the look of it. Just not sure which switch I am going to use.....
I really wanted to use my aux switch to trigger my garage door remote. But my remote (Chamberlain brand) uses a 3 volt pancake type battery. I tried to make a voltage reducer but it fried the remote. I ended up just putting another remote under the seat and adding a momentary switch in my dash. There are a lot of threads on how to do this.
Have you thought about buying a new trip reset button and boot and using that to hook up to your remote? It's about a total of 15 bucks, I did it and love it. Good luck which ever route you go..
