Could you have put 577's on and heated grips be long enough ? My concern is thermostat cable.

Thanx Barry

I saw you were changing your bars. Were you able to keep the stock heated grips with the 575's? Could you have put 577's on/ I am looking for 2"up and 2" back. How did you make out. I would be real interested to know. I have heard the heated grips thermostat cable was in question of being long enough.

Thanx

Barry

I changed out the bars on my limited. Did the work myself which was a PITA but very doable if you take your time, have some tools and a service manual and take some advise from some of the members on the forum. I installed WO575 and the grips work just fine. The connector wires for the grips are long enough with the 575's. I did use a +4 clutch and used some wire extensions, but that is just me...others will reroute wires and cables. I have always thought that if it is a job worth doing, it is a job worth doing right. Thanks for listening to the likes of me.

Unfortunately, the 575's weren't quite long enough, so I took them off and went for 577's instead. With the apes I needed a +6" clutch cable, longer brake lines and 12" wiring extensions for everything to work. Unfortunately, I was putting the left grip (the one with the heated grip switch) on late at night while just a bit grumpy and tried to force it on when it didn't want to go. Due to my little fit of temper, the switch came apart on me. I managed to get it more or less back together, but of course now the grips aren't heating up. Guess I'll drag out the electrical diagnostics manual this weekend and see what I need to do to fix it.

By the way, the 577's are way more comfortable for me, but then again I'm a short arm fellow.
Was it a huge job. I want to go with the 577s too but keep putting it off because it looks like a BIG job. How long did it take you total?

Changing out the bars and running the wiring internal is a big job and as stated, a PITA. That said, have the service manual, take your time, lube it well, and did I say take your time, and it will work out. An extra set of hands helps with the wiring, 1 pulling, 1 pushing, but can be done single handed, just takes a bit more time.

No part # per say for the wiring extensions that I know of as they are offered by several different outfits. Didn't need them anyway with the 575.
