I recently purchased a new 2011 FLHTK. I want to change the hadlebars to a taller bar and preferably a 1.25 diameter bar. Was looking at Wild 1 chubby's.
Is there a way to do this and keep the stock heated grips??
I put Wild 1 575's on my 2010 FLHTK with no problems. All you really need is a longer clutch cable. You need to reroute some of the wiring in the fairing, but you don't have to use wiring extensions if you don't want to. My heated grips worked fine after the bars were on.
Unfortunately, the 575's weren't quite long enough, so I took them off and went for 577's instead. With the apes I needed a +6" clutch cable, longer brake lines and 12" wiring extensions for everything to work. Unfortunately, I was putting the left grip (the one with the heated grip switch) on late at night while just a bit grumpy and tried to force it on when it didn't want to go. Due to my little fit of temper, the switch came apart on me. I managed to get it more or less back together, but of course now the grips aren't heating up. Guess I'll drag out the electrical diagnostics manual this weekend and see what I need to do to fix it.
By the way, the 577's are way more comfortable for me, but then again I'm a short arm fellow.
I'm about to do the exact same thing. I read a lot about problems people have with grips and chubbies but I think the factory HD grips that come on the "K" work from what I've found.
I'm about to order some if wild one would pick up the phone.

I am having the WO 575's put on as we speak. Went down to the dealer the other day and was talking to the guy doing the work for me. He was able to use the stock brake cable, but had to changeout the clutch cable. There was no issue with the heated grips.
I have a 2011 limited want to change bars 2" up and 2" back while keeping the heated grips. Did you have any luck and what did you do? Did you have a problem with the thermostat cable being long enough, if so what did you do.
Thanx
